The Evolution of Timber Frame ...

Thinking out of the box and not trying to force traditional methods to work, we worked on a whole new way of building using variations on a theme and offering a solution that really does provide a practical way of delivering buildings to site and that look like traditional buildings when finished.

We derived EvoFrame following 30 years in the construction industry, using that vast experience to come up with a solution that works. From the very onset of the concept, we threw out all of the current methods and preconceived ideas and started again, with a clean sheet of paper, with nothing to complicate the thinking process.

Much like an industrial design process, the basis of EvoFrame started with establishing the boundaries and limitations to ensure the finished product was practical. It became clear at the start that a volumetric design would provide the most efficient basis for the best from 'factory to site' requirement. From logistical restrictions, through structural and building regulation requirements to aesthetic considerations, the blank canvas slowly turned into a recognised solution.

Size and handability limitations dictated the overall sizes of the modules and from that a self-supporting structure was born along with a way of delivering that structure to site using standard handling equipment. Searches across the world indicated that nobody else had thought of this and with the aid of our patent attorney, we formally lodged a patent application for the worldwide IP of EvoFrame.

With the basis of an industrial solution on paper, we then went on to explore the optimum solutions that our concept would deliver. This involved many months of design and research & development with pre-production proto-types proving we had found a good solution.

We started using outside component manufacturers and quickly realised that relying on ‘others’ would upset the natural flow of the manufacturing process. We made some design changes in order to facilitate improved component manufacture and brought the process in-house, where all of our components have now been designed to be made easily and within our factory. Relying on ourselves had to be the best way forward.

Make no mistake, this is a large product. We also needed to deal with designing component assembly into the overall process and through design, we have achieved a maximised production sequence that makes best use of space, operatives and time. In a pure time & motion situation, EvoFrame has an optimum solution designed and built within, ensuring the most efficient cost benefits.

From concept to finished product, EvoFrame has gone through an enormous process of optimising every avenue in providing a realistic solution to off-site construction. From paper to site, and all of the lateral considerations effecting that path, the final result is one that can be easily controlled through its full evolution. Built in quality ensures long term quality.
